A man of substance

The Reverend Edmund E Bromwich MA (Oxford), MA (Dublin), BA (Bristol).

Our President, The Reverend Edmund Bromwich of Alderley Edge, Cheshire, appeared on his 68th birthday, in Macclesfield Magistrates court where he was fined £25 with £15 costs for obstructing an (off-duty) police officer.

The Reverend Bromwich had been arrested on May 19th when attending a demonstration against the incarceration of hens in batteries. At the time of his arrest he was waiting admission to hospital with a heart condition.

Our President is a retired clergyman and teacher, and a graduate of three universities. He is also vice-president of a Society in opposition to shows involving animals in acts of so-called entertainment.

He states most emphatically that he is opposed to all forms of cruelty to humans, and especially to animals, who are unable to speak for themselves.

He has a great admiration for his fellow-demonstrators and states: "They are fine, courageous people, who sacrifice their week-ends and evenings in order to help the helpless. They risk arrest as well as being 'roughed up'. The majority are young but they have their priorities right, putting compassion first. They are very intelligent and amazingly unselfish. To me it is a privilege to know, and to be associated with them".

Our committee is proud to have The Reverend Bromwich in the capacity of President to our Society. He is not just a sitting member holding high office, but rather an active clergyman who does not hesitate to intervene if he witnesses acts of aggression upon God’s sentient creatures. We cannot speak or write too highly of this very dedicated humanitarian.
